Spring Trends

Happy first full week of spring! Spring is one of my favourite seasons because it is the first real opportunity to bring some colour back into your wardrobe after months of greys and neutrals that came as a result of winter. I have done my research and scoured through all the fashion magazines I could find in order to gather up my Spring 2015 trend favourites. The best part about all these trends is that they are flattering to all shapes and sizes, truly levelling the playing field when it comes to fashion.

Culottes - Culottes are the must have trousers for spring. I describe culottes as the lovechild of pants, shorts and skirts, with a classic 70's cut. Culottes are the perfect versatile style, providing the ability to either dress them up or put a tomboy spin on it. Culottes come in a varying array of lengths, from ankle grazers all the way up to fun above the knee short-length. My favourite way to style these spring must haves is with a structured blazer, silk button up blouse and a pair of high, point heels.

Kaleidoscope Vision

Orange Print Duster Jacket - Evans | Multicoloured Tile Print Tapered Trousers - Evans
Pink High Vamp Cut Out Ankle Strap Heels - New Look | Ruby Woo - Mac Cosmetics
I love a good print more than the next guy, but styling this matching two piece set was quite the challenge. I really like the tapered cut of the tile print trousers because they add a wonderful length to the silhouette, hitting just above the ankle. In addition, the duster jacket length hits mid-thigh, providing an elongated look. The soft collar of the duster jacket adds a feminine touch to the androgynous cut of the entire set. I decided that the print was beautiful enough to hold its own, so simple accessorizing touches were the way to go. I paired it with a simple white tank top, long gold necklace and statement ring. A fun twist on this outfit would be to pair it with a silk, peach blouse or pale blue camisole, picking up the accented colours in the multicoloured tile print.

Festival Vibes

T-Shirt Dress in Stripe Print - ASOS Curve | Sunnies (old) - Similar Here
Cowboy Hat (old) - Similar Here  | Cowboy Booties (old Shoedazzle) - Similar Here
This week, my close friends Rebecca, Klugsberg & I started discussing all of our summer plans. Included in these were lists of music festivals across Canada that we had to attend. This colourful discussion got me so excited abut both summer as a whole, as well as music festivals. In my mind, music festivals provide the perfect arena for individual style to flourish. it is a magical place located somewhere between Earth and the Sun where you are free to express yourself artistically, through music and clothes. I am beyond excited for music festival season to roll around as I will be rocking bold patterns, swing dresses and cowboy hats 24/7.

Geometric Prints

Michel Studio Print Dress - Addition Elle | Hair by Christine at Calgary Best Hair
It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Addition Elle! I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the brand grow and evolve to produce timeless pieces that flatter a variety of different body types. I remember growing up with Addition Elle being the only retailer that made clothes that satisfied my deluded sense of what normal was because their clothing looked like what my friend were wearing. Fast forward a couple of years, to a point in my life where I embrace my body, and Addition Elle has remained a constant staple in my sense fashion.

Simplicity Is Key

Michel Studio Ragan Sleeve Blouse - Addition Elle | Lot 18 Joggy Jeans - Addition Elle
Lilac Croc Ankle Strap Heels - New Look | Hair by Christine at Calgary Best Hair
Happy March everyone! These past two months of blogging have been amazing and I have learned so much about plus size fashion, while also working on evolving my own personal fashion sense. This post is meant to emphasize the fact that sometimes less is more. A simple, pastel palette based outfit can be achieved by a plus sized lady, because in my opinion, simplicity can go a long way in an outfit. The key to a simple, yet stylish outfit, is to pick one base colour and work to fill out the rest of the outfit with neutrals. The base colour I chose was lavender, which worked perfectly with Addition Elle's joggy jeans and my New Look sandals I just got in! I decided to go with a Michel Studio ragan sleeve blouse in white as a neutral because it really working to bring out the pink tones in the lavender, which is what I was going for. This look can easily be recreated using grey, beige or even black as the neutral, however, these colours would bring out different undertones int he lavender, so its all up to your taste!
